Policy stated; a student who cheats on a test,
will get a zero – must start to work his best.
The experts in charge, thought this far too cruel;
too much injustice for such a sensitive school.
New policy noted; a zero too hard and not fair,
an unjust outcome – too heavy for a student to bear.
So if a student, is dishonest and decides to cheat –
no zero grade – the test is retaken – a repeat.
Policy makers, perhaps believed this change
wouldn’t harm students, who thought the change quite strange;
or fortunate students with parents at home who cared;
they’d hire tutors, and made sure their kids were spared.
But did policy makers, actually fail to see
which students most likely hurt, by the change would be?
Disadvantaged students – in need of the zero to learn,
the ones who cheated, and passed; and later get burned.

<<<< Quotes from public comments made at the Jul 19,2021 meeting include for example: “… how, students struggling with their studies, can improve if they don’t receive a true assessment of what they really understand.” They suggested that “… multiple retakes of a test will encourage recalling words that are ‘right answers’ with no understanding of their meaning”. Some attendees, through personal stories, explained how these policy changes “could be most harmful to those students who struggle hardest to understand the material”, and questioned “why encourage cheating?” >>>>
