Since the start of the ages this human affliction
of slavery has been an abhorrent addiction.
Where a person with power from luck of the draw,
would dictate to others – daily random new law.
This monstrous arrangement served slave owners well
– no matter the victims left living in hell.
But the spark that is freedom – it lives in us all,
at times through the ages answers the call.
There were some who fought back – but were beaten back down,
as the owner stood tall, mocked the slave on the ground.
So tragic if stories of courage from old
might be lost to the ages, and never be told.
That won’t be the case, if we all agree
to remember Dred Scott along with Bob Lee.
For Lee and his kind – they stood in the way
of freedom; and statues of Lee stand today.
You know ol’ Bob Lee was against abolition –
let his statue remain – but with one slight addition.
Dred fought in the courts – his freedom he claimed.
With time proven right – so remember Dred’s name.
Dred needs a statue, wherever Lee’s placed,
build Dred a bit taller, looking down at Lee’s face.
So wherever Bob stands, build a statue for Dred
– that tells a story that needs to be spread!
